ArcheAge Chronicles beginner guide

The first hour of ArcheAge Chronicles is character creation, a tutorial, a first town, and a Nui Statue. Launch week also shipped a list of bugs that look like player error. Read those before you reroll.

The first three beats

Create one of four classes. Warrior and Berserker are male at launch; Ranger and Mage are female. The choice sticks. After the tutorial, the first town is where the Nui Statue stands. That statue is where you later choose a PvP channel. You do not have to. Peace channels do not allow player attacks.

Each level gives three attribute points. Spend them in the character sheet, not in the weapon trait tree. Trait points are a second currency from Coilstones. Mixing those up is the mistake that makes a build guide feel broken on day one.

Bugs that masquerade as difficulty

The demo told players a black screen could be shader compile time, up to about ten minutes. Early Access replaced that with a shader-compilation screen. If the anti-cheat init hangs, the known-issues post says to screenshot it and open a support ticket. A tutorial quest can stick; a fix was written and still waiting to deploy on 4 November. If Malchuk dies and the boss never returns, that is a listed bug: leave the area and come back, and in some reports the boss still does not revive. “The first boss is too hard” was a player phrase. The official text is about bosses failing to spawn.

Questions people ask

What should I do first?

Finish creation, clear the tutorial, reach the first town, and find the Nui Statue before you worry about a build.

Why is the screen black?

Shader compilation. Early Access shows a compilation screen. The demo advice was to wait up to about ten minutes.
