ArcheAge Chronicles Mage

The Mage is the spell class, locked to a female body at launch. One weapon is the Elemental Staff, a ranged fire-and-lightning kit. The other is the Wavesword, a melee ice blade. People asking for a spellsword build are usually asking about that second weapon.

Elemental Staff play revolves around Retain and an Energy Core. Shooting Star is described as a stack, up to ten, before a payoff. Wall of Fire was lowered at launch, and the staff’s lightning skills were adjusted in the same pass. I am not reprinting the old demo tooltips as if the nerf had not happened.

Wavesword play builds a Freeze gauge and spends it. The names that repeat are Tidal Rend, Glacial Burst, Frost Shard, Tidal Rush, and Thundersnow. RaidDex lists 40 perks and 17 active skills for the weapon, and a Frost Shard multiplier in the thousands of percent. That multiplier is a database cell. I am not going to quote it as your damage.

One older MMORPG.com headline called the melee weapon a Thundersword. Current official wording and RaidDex say Wavesword. I keep the old headline as a one-source alias and the URL as /weapons/wavesword/.

Aranzeb, and the weapon that is not official

Mage lore points at Aranzeb the same way Warrior lore points at Kyrios. It explains the ice-and-storm flavor. It does not add a skill.

RaidDex shows a Vitality Staff marked not playable yet. The producer letter names a third weapon only for the Warrior. A male Mage has no date. Until a news post names either, this page says “database only” for the staff and “no date” for the body option.

If you wanted a ranged mage, start on the Elemental Staff and spend trait points there. If you wanted a battlemage, the Wavesword is the launch answer, and its trait tree is separate. Coilstone points do not transfer between those trees. That split surprises people who treat “Mage” as one build.

What is the best Mage setup?

There is no official best. Staff is ranged fire and lightning. Wavesword is melee ice. Pick the range you want to stand at.

Is the weapon called Thundersword?

Current pages say Wavesword. One September 2026 article used Thundersword.

Can I play a male Mage?

No launch date for a male Mage was found. The December letter names a female Warrior, not a male Mage.
